Home & Garden Show

WSHH Radio is one of the exhibitors at this year’s Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center from March 10-19. We have two booths at the show on the “Home” floor of the show. During the first part of this week, I learned how long it takes to set up for such an event. Not just our booth, but everyone else’s as well. With most “home” booths having full kitchen or bathroom set ups, building these can take weeks depending on the size. Even for just our booths (which consist of a canopy, ten tables, tablecloths, enter to win boxes, sound system, signs, and sponsor literature at the first booth; and our backdrop, three tables, tablecloths, sound system, enter to win boxes, signs, and sponsor literature at our second booth), it took about six hours to get everything placed, put together, and home show ready. You also learn how to be patient with people during this time (convention center workers are all union, so you have to learn how to work around their schedules and try to match what you have to set up with their help times for your booth). WSHH’s big promotion during the Home and Garden Show is the “Dream Kitchen” Giveaway. One winner wins approximately $14,000 worth of prizes, including a kitchen remodeling and many other prizes from the sponsors of the giveaway. I’ve definitely been learning a lot more than radio with my internship here at the station, but I continue to love it and learn something new every time I’m at the station or at an event!

Everybody loves Plinko!

Being a life-long viewer of  “The Price Is Right,” I’ve always wanted to be a contestant and win the Showcase Showdown! Well, “The Price Is Right” is a little closer to home now! WSHH has always had its Prize Wheel for remote events, as well as a jackpot game that was used at events that had on – air personalities in attendance. Instead of the jackpot game, WSHH has now invested in a PLINKO game for prizes! I learned how to set it up, put the winning prize slots in, and how others can play the game. The PLINKO game will be used for guests to win prizes at special remote events that include our on-air personalities Cris, Jordan, and/or Ron. WSHH’S PLINKO game made its first appearance at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center for the Pittsburgh Auto Show. The game was a big hit for contestants young and old, and almost everyone made a reference to “The Price Is Right” and how they had “always wanted to play PLINKO!” The PLINKO game has been used at two other remote events since then, but it has definitely been a hit for all contestants (and everyone wins a prize too)! Looks like the PLINKO game is here to stay at WSHH!

Donut Time!

Last weekend, I went on a remote event to Murrysville to a Sincerely Yogurt that also had a Donut shop (Oh My Donuts!) inside. We were asked to attend the event to help Mr. Waterheater charities. While there, we learned how to make donuts! And we got to make our own flavor creation! The donut shop makes mini donuts (kind of like a “peace, love and donuts” place) and they are made fresh every morning! The owner had everything from classic rainbow sprinkles to ones that are covered in smores toppings! One of the WSHH personalities and I got to come up with our own topping creations! Cris decided to add the cone crunch (peanut butter brittle) and call it the “Cris Crunch Donut.” Because of my love of Reese’s Cups, I opted for a peanut butter spread with chocolate chips on top! So even though I didn’t really learn anything “radio related,” I did get to learn how to make donuts! You learn something new everyday, right? 🙂
